Brooks Robinson collected the 2,000th hit of his major league career with a dramatic three-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Orioles a 5-4 victory over the Senators. Frank Robinson singled and Boog Powell homered to produce two runs for the Orioles in the first inning, but the Senators tied the score in the second with the aid of doubles by Paul Casanova and Tim Cullen.

Don Buford and Powell walked in the fifth ahead of Brooks Robinson's milestone smash. The Senators rallied in the ninth and chased Mike Cuellar. Pete Richert, who relieved with the bases loaded, gave up a two-run single by Lee Maye before recording the final out. [The Sporting News]
