. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The pitching of Catfish Hunter in the first game and the batting of Sal Bando in the second game helped the Athletics to 6-3 and 5-4 victories over the White Sox, who lost a doubleheader for the sixth time this season. The A's bunched five singles and a sacrifice fly for four runs in the first inning of the opener. Reggie Jackson, who singled and scored during the outburst, batted in a run with another single in the fifth and then singled and crossed the plate in the eighth. Hunter had only one bad inning, giving up White Sox runs in the fourth on a homer by Bill Melton, a single by Ed Herrmann and a homer by Syd O'Brien.

In the nightcap, Bert Campaneris led off the first inning with a homer for the A's, Steve Hovley doubled and Bando hit for the circuit. After Don Mincher drove in a run with a single in the fifth, Bando belted his second homer of the game in the eighth to supply the deciding tally. Mudcat Grant gave up a run to the White Sox in the ninth before completing the save. [The Sporting News]
