With the score tied, 2-2, Adolfo Phillips singled in the fifth inning and moved to second on a sacrifice. Coco Laboy then grounded to Freddie Patek, who started to throw to third for an easy shot at Phillips, but the shortstop dropped the ball. John Bateman followed with a single, scoring Phillips.
