The Yankees exploded for six runs in the 11th inning to outslug the Red Sox, 14-10. Danny Cater, who drove in the tying tally in the eighth, singled in the 11th for his fifth hit of the game. Singles by Thurman Munson and Ron Hansen loaded the bases and after Curt Blefary popped up, Jerry Kenney singled to plate two runs. Lindy McDaniel followed with another two-run single. A single by Horace Clarke and a double by Bobby Murcer added a fifth tally. Cater, batting for the second time in the stanza, accounted for the last run with a sacrifice fly.

The Red Sox stirred up a rally in their half of the 11th, but managed to get only two runs before McDaniel retired the side to wrap up his victory in relief. [The Sporting News]
