Manager Dave Bristol, who had used five pinch-hitters previously in the game, went to his bench again and called on Gus Gil, who responded with a two-run double with two out in the ninth inning to give the Brewers a 4-3 victory over the Twins.

With George Mitterwald hitting a two-run homer, the Twins held a 3-1 lead before Phil Roof narrowed the gap with a round-tripper for the Brewers in the seventh. Roof was hit by a pitched ball in the ninth and Tommy Harper walked ahead of Gil's winning double. [The Sporting News]
