. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Duffy Dyer, batting after Ron Swoboda doubled to open the 10th inning, failed in two bunt attempts and then swung away at a 3-and-2 pitch for a homer to give the Mets a 12-10 victory over the Cubs. Bill Williams drove in the Cubs' first four runs with a single and a homer before the Mets exploded for seven runs in the fourth for an 8-4 lead. The Cubs added one run in their half and went ahead with five in the fifth. The Mets tied the score in the ninth on a pass to Bud Harrelson, forceout by Cleon Jones, single by Art Shamsky, an infield out and a single by Ken Boswell. [The Sporting News]
