After the first 10 batters went down in order against Mike McCormick, the Reds exploded with three homers to beat the Giants, 5-3. Tommy Helms singled for the first hit off McCormick in the fourth inning and Tony Perez follwed with a circuit clout. Johnny Bench doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield out before Hal McRae unloaded a homer. Lee May added the Reds' third round-tripper in the sixth inning. Willie McCovey hit a homer with a man on base for the Giants.
