Dick Dietz hit a three-run homer in the second inning to provide the Giants with a 3-0 victory over the Braves behind the combined pitching of Skip Pitlock, Frank Reberger and Don McMahon. Pitlock, who received credit for his first major league victory, was forced to leave the game after five innings with a spike wound suffered while covering first base on a putout of Felix Millan.

Reberger took over and lasted until the ninth when two walks brought McMahon to the rescue. Dietz hit his homer after Ken Henderson reached base on an error and Willie McCovey singled. [The Sporting News]
