. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Jim Beauchamp hit his first homer in a Cardinals' uniform to decide a 9-8 victory over the Phillies. The outfielder's blow in the eighth inning, breaking an 8-8 tie, enabled Ted Abernathy, in relief, to receive credit for his first win with the Redbirds.

Beauchamp also singled for an RBI and Joe Torre drove in a run with a double in the fourth inning when the Cardinals scored four times to take a 4-3 lead. Another four-run burst in the fifth included a homer by Torre with two men on base. The Phillies came back with three in the sixth and tied the score in the seventh on a two-run single by Byron Browne. [The Sporting News]
