Three homers powered the Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Astros. Pete Rose and Bobby Tolan connected in succession in the first inning and the Reds then went scoreless against Don Wilson until Tony Perez hit his 27th homer of the season in the ninth.

The Astros picked up their initial run in the first when Jim Wynn grounded into a double play after Cesar Cedeno walked and took third on a single by Joe Morgan. The tying run followed in the fourth on two passes and a double by Doug Rader. [The Sporting News]
