. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Two pinch-hitters, Vic Davalillo and Jose Cardenal, drove in two runs apiece as the Cardinals rallied in the eighth inning to defeat the Cubs, 8-6. Ernie Banks batted in five runs with two homers and a sacrifice fly in a futile effort to revive the Cubs, who lost their 11th straight game.

Dick Allen, who hit a two-run homer for the Cardinals, walked to open the eighth, Joe Torre singled and Jim Beauchamp was safe on a bunt to load the bases. Davalillo then doubled to tie the score at 6-6 and Cardenal followed with a single to provide the winning margin. [The Sporting News]
