A two-run rally in the ninth inning brought the Mets a 3-2 victory over the Pirates, who were stopped on their seven-game winning streak. Tom Seaver, who gained his 12th victory, allowed only five hits, but the Pirates scored a run in the fifth when Willie Stargell doubled and Gene Alley singled and took 2-1 lead in the ninth on singles by Richie Hebner, Roberto Clemente and Stargell. In the Mets' half, Ken Singleton, Art Shamsky and Dave Marshall singled to tie the score. After Ken Boswell was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Cleon Jones forced pinch-runner Al Weis at plate, but Donn Clendenon went to bat for Jerry Grote and delivered a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run.
