Coming to bat as a pinch-hitter, Rick Renick delivered a grand-slam homer in the sixth inning to spark the Twins to an 8-5 victory over the Royals. With Paul Schaal hitting for the circuit, the Royals held a 5-1 lead before Harmon Killebrew opened the Twins' rally with a homer. A single by Jim Holt and passes to Leo Cardenas and George Mitterwald then loaded the bases for Renick's blast off Bob Johnson. The Twins added two clinching tallies in the seventh when Killebrew and Rich Reese singled and Holt tripled.
