Steve Renko pitched hitless ball for 6 1/3 innings and then settled for a three-hitter as the Expos defeated the Phillies, 8-1. Oscar Gamble broke Renko's string with a single. The Phillies added their two other hits and scored their run in the eighth when Ron Stone was nicked by a pitch and Doc Edwards and Jim Hutto singled. The Expos piled up 16 hits, tying a club record.
