. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Capping a four-run rally in the sixth inning, Wayne Garrett scored on an error to provide the Mets with the deciding tally in a 7-6 victory over the Pirates. Tommie Agee set a Mets' record for the most homers in one month, 11, to the tie score at 3-3 in the fifth inning. Al Oliver sent the Pirates ahead again with a circuit clout in the sixth.

Donn Clendenon singled in the Mets' half and Ron Swoboda walked, leading to the removal of Bob Veale. Joe Foy welcomed the arrival of Orlando Pena with a single, tying the score. Garrett walked to load the bases and when Jerry Grote grounded out, Swoboda crossed the plate. Jerry Koosman then grounded to Pena, Foy scoring, and when the pitcher threw wildly to first, Garrett also registered. That run proved decisive when Willie Stargell homered with a man on base for the Pirates in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
