Tony Perez and Pete Rose batted in seven runs between them and Tommy Helms added two others with a homer as the Reds defeated the Braves, 9-2, for their first victory in new Riverfront Stadium. Perez accounted for four runs with a double and two grounders, while Rose picked up three RBIs with a triple and a sacrifice fly.

Helms' homer in the sixth inning was the Reds' first in their new park. Wayne Simpson gained his ninth straight victory and 12th of the season with a six-hitter. Hal King saved the Braves from being shut out by hitting for the circuit with a man on base in the ninth inning. [The Sporting News]
