Jim Fregosi hit a homer with a man on base to cap a three-run rally in the seventh inning and enable the Angels to defeat the Brewers, 4-3. Bob Burda hit his first A. L. homer in the second when the Brewers took a 2-1 lead.

Greg Garrett had the rare experience of being credited with a victory without retiring a batter. Garrett, relieving Andy Messersmith with two out in the sixth, picked Tommy Harper off base to end the inning. The Angels then went ahead in the seventh. Jay Johnstone doubled and counted the tying run on a single by Bill Voss, who batted for Garrett.
