The Cubs snapped their 12-game losing streak behind the pitching of Fergie Jenkins, who yielded only four hits and beat the Cardinals, 5-0. Jerry Reuss kept pace with Jenkins until the seventh inning when the Cubs erupted for four runs.

Jack Hiatt walked and when Jenkins bunted, both runners were safe on a fielder's choice. Following a sacrifice by Don Kessinger, Paul Popovich grounded to Julian Javier, who threw wildly to the plate as two runs scored. Billy Williams singled to drive in Popovich. Singles by Jim Hickman and Ron Santo then plated Williams with the fourth run of the frame. [The Sporting News]
