A homer by Carl Yastrzemski in the first game and an unearned run in the second game provided the Red Sox with 2-1 and 5-4 victories over the Indians in a twi-night doubleheader. Yastrzemski snapped a 1-1 tie in the lidlifter with his blow in the eighth inning.

The Indians took a 4-0 lead in the nightcap, with three runs scoring on a circuit clout by Ray Fosse. The Red Sox came back with three in the third on singles by Yastrzemski and Tony Conigliaro, a triple by Rico Petrocelli and a double by George Scott. A single by Scott and triple by Jerry Moses produced the tying run in the seventh. Scott was trapped off third on a scratch hit by Dick Schofield, but escaped a rundown and scored the deciding marker on a wild throw by Ed Herrmann. [The Sporting News]
