The Expos' five-game winning streak, the longest in the expansion club's history, came to an end when the Cardinals batted their way to a 9-7 victory with the aid of homers by Lou Brock and Dick Allen. The Cardinals, after picking up a run in the first inning, erupted for five in the second. Chuck Taylor singled with the bases loaded to drive in two tallies and Brock followed with a three-run homer. The Cardinals added a run in sixth and scored their decisive pair in the seventh when Joe Torre doubled and Allen hit for the circuit. [The Sporting News]
