Donn Clendenon hit one of the longest homers in the history of Connie Mack Stadium to feature the Mets' attack in support of Tom Seaver, who posted his 13th victory by defeating the Phillies, 7-2. In the first inning, after Tommie Agee singled, Clendenon smashed a drive over the 32-foot high wall in dead center field.

The Phillies tied the score in their half when Oscar Gamble and Ron Stone singled and Don Money doubled, but the Mets moved out to stay with two runs in the fourth on a double by Clendenon, walk to Ron Swoboda, a sacrifice and a single by Jerry Grote. [The Sporting News]
