Boog Powell batted in the Orioles' runs with a single and a sacrifice fly to beat the Tigers, 2-0, and hand Denny McLain his first defeat since returning to action after a three-month suspension. Jim Palmer posted the shutout on a three-hitter.

Don Buford singled in the fifth inning, advanced on an infield out and and scored the first run on Powell's single. The other tally counted in the sixth on a double by Mark Belanger, a single by Buford and Powell's fly. [The Sporting News]
