Cesar Tovar scored one run and batted in another to enable the Twins to edge the Athletics, 2-1, behind the combined five-hit pitching of Bill Zepp and Ron Perranoski. Tovar beat out an infield hit in the third and crossed the plate on a single by Tony Oliva, an error by Joe Rudi on the hit, and a single by Harmon Killebrew. Leo Cardenas walked in the fourth and counted what proved to be the winning run on singles by Zepp and Tovar. Zepp's hit was the first of his major league career. [The Sporting News]
