The slugging of Dick Dietz, who drove in five runs with a double and a homer, enabled the Giants to defeat the Braves, 8-5. Dietz batted in two runs with his double in the first inning. Rich Robertson homered for the Giants in the second. However, the Braves had a circuit clout by Rico Carty and held a 5-4 lead going into the seventh when the Giants exploded for four runs. Bobby Bonds was hit by a pitch, stole second and counted the tying tally on a single by Ron Hunt.
