. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Ron Santo and Billy Williams each homered with a man on base to power the Cubs to a 5-1 victory in the opener of a doubleheader, but four unearned runs enabled the Expos to win the nightcap, 5-4.

The Cubs took a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning of the second game. Willie Smith hit a two-run homer. Johnny Callison doubled, stole third and continued home on a throwing error by Ron Brand. The Expos bounced back with three runs in the seventh. Bobby Wine singled, Brand was safe on an error and, with one out, Gary Sutherland singled to score Wine. After Adolfo Phillips grounded out, the Cubs elected to pass Bob Bailey intentionally. John Boccabella then batted for Dan McGinn and singled, driving in the tying and winning runs.
