Jim Ray Hart, who went hitless in the previous night's game, his first since returning from exile in the minors, tied the modern major league record by driving in six runs in one inning as the Giants walloped the Braves, 13-0. Gaylord Perry, who pitched a five-hitter, posted the first shutout to the credit of the Giants' staff this season.

Hart, who hit for the cycle, doubled in the second inning and batted in a run with a single in the third before enjoying his six-RBI burst in the fifth when the Giants went on an 11-run spree. The third baseman drove in the first three runs of the explosion with a homer and then on his second time at bat in that stanza tripled with the bases loaded. [The Sporting News]
