Tom Seaver rapped the first homer of his major league career along with pitching a three-hitter, as the Mets defeated the Expos, 7-1, for their seventh straight victory. Ron Swoboda smashed a grand-slam homer in the third inning after the Mets had loaded the bases on singles by Bud Harrelson and Ken Singleton and a pass to Donn Clendenon. Seaver led off the fourth with his round-tripper.

The Mets' ace, who raised his record to 14-5 with his seventh consecutive complete-game victory, was deprived of a shutout when Rusty Staub homered in the sixth. Tommie Agee was collared, ending the Met outfielder's 19-game batting streak. [The Sporting News]
