. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Les Cain, who drove in two runs with a single, combined with Tom Timmerman on a four-hitter to pitch the Tigers to a 4-2 victory over the Orioles. Don Wert homered in the second inning for the Tigers' initial run. Singles by Cain and Wert and an infield out preceded Cain's decisive single in the fourth. The Tigers added a final run in the eighth on singles by Norm Cash, Wert and Ken Szotkiewicz.

Cain allowed only one hit until weakening with one away in the seventh when the Orioles loaded the bases on singles by Davey Johnson and Andy Etchebarren and a pass to Bobby Grich. One run scored on Curt Motton's forceout of Grich and another on a single by Don Buford before Timmerman took over and checked the rally. [The Sporting News]
