The hitting of Pat Kelly and Ed Kirkpatrick, who drove in seven of Kansas City's total of 10 runs, led the Royals to an 8-6 and 2-0 sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the White Sox. The Royals started their scoring with five runs in the third inning of the lidlifter, three counting on a homer by Kelly and one on a double by Kirkpatrick. Kelly added his fourth RBI of the game with a single in fourth and Kirkpatrick homered in the seventh.

Jim Rooker pitched the Royals' shutout in the nightcap and got the only run that he needed when Kirkpatrick hit for the circuit in the fourth. However, Rooker helped clinch his verdict, hitting a sacrifice fly in the fifth after a triple by Tom Matchick. [The Sporting News]
