Supported by two homers, Jack McDowell pitched the Indians to a 3-1 victory over the Red Sox. Chuck Hinton walked and Buddy Bradford homered in the second inning. McDowell retired the first 11 batters before Carl Yastrzemski doubled and Rico Petrocelli singled for the Red Sox run in the fourth. Graig Nettles then gave McDowell more working margin by hitting for the circuit in the Indians' half of the fourth. [The Sporting News]
