Climaxing the Phillies' 18-hit attack, Byron Browne came to the plate in the ninth inning and smashed the first grand-slam homer of his major league career to beat the Padres, 10-7. Ollie Brown rapped a round-tripper with two men on base for the Padres in the first inning and later, with the score tied, 5-5, Dave Campbell hit for the circuit in the seventh, Cito Gaston tripled and Brown singled.

After the Phillies picked up an unearned run in the eighth, Deron Johnson was safe on an error to open the ninth, Tony Taylor singled, Larry Bowa sarificed and Mike Ryan was passed intentionally to set the stage for Browne's belt. [The Sporting News]
