. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Pirates gained their first victory in new Three Rivers Stadium when Roberto Clemente homered in the eighth inning to beat the Reds, 4-3. The outfield star also saved the game by throwing out a runner at the plate in the ninth.

The Pirates trailed, 3-0, before getting their first two runs on a homer by Manny Sanguillen in the fourth. Clemente hit the 150th triple of his major league career in the sixth and counted the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Al Oliver. Clemente's homer in the eighth snapped the 10-game winning streak of Wayne Simpson, the Reds' rookie sensation. [The Sporting News]
