A triple by Rick Monday and homer by Frank Fernandez were the key blows for the Athletics in a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox. The A's scored twice in the third inning on a single by Bert Campaneris, Monday's triple and an infield out by Tommy Davis. Fernandez hit his homer in the fourth to produce the deciding run. Reggie Smith, who had three of Boston's six hits, doubled and scored in the third inning and homered in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
