Kaycee management gave out rabbits' feet to the crowd of 9,334, but the good luck charms failed to work as the Royals lost to the Orioles, 2-1, for their 18th straight defeat in meetings between the two clubs over a two-year period. The Orioles notched their initial run in the third inning on singles by Jim Hardin and Bobby Grich, around an infield out.

Hardin held the Royals to one hit until the seventh, when a single by Lou Piniella, walk to Ed Kirkpatrick, safe bunt by Bob Oliver and single by Cookie Rojas tied the score. In the Orioles' ninth, Boog Powell walked and was forced by Brooks Robinson, who then scored the winning run on a single by Elrod Hendricks and double by Terry Crowley. [The Sporting News]
