The Orioles continued their domination of the Royals with a 5-4 victory, beating the expansion club for the 20th straight time over two seasons. The Royals' pitching staff had not allowed a homer for 135 innings until Frank Robinson broke that string with a two-run shot in the third to give the Orioles a 3-1 lead.

A walk to Amos Otis with the bases loaded in the home half of the fourth and doubles by Bob Oliver and Billy Sorrell in the fifth tied the score. The Orioles went ahead with a walk to Jim Palmer, single by Merv Rettenmund and sacrifice fly by Frank Robinson in the seventh and added the deciding run in the eighth when Brooks Robinson singled and Bobby Grich tripled.
