The Angels rallied for three runs in the ninth inning and defeated the Red Sox, 4-1. Jay Johnstone homered for the Angels in the fourth and the Red Sox picked up their run in the same stanza on a single by Tony Conigliaro, double by Rico Petrocelli and sacrifice fly by Don Pavletich.

Jarvis Tatum doubled for the Angels in the ninth and scored the tie-breaking tally on a two-bagger by pinch-hitter Billy Cowan. An intentional walk to Alex Johnson, single by Jim Spencer and double by Ken McMullen added extra runs. [The Sporting News]
