The Twins won the season series with the Orioles, seven games to five, by posting a 5-2 victory in the last scheduled meeting between the division leaders. After starting with a homer by Jim Holt in the second inning, the Twins scored three runs in the third. Rich Reese batted in a pair with a triple and scored himself on a double by Tony Oliva. George Mitterwald homered for the Twins' last tally in the sixth.

Bert Blyleven gave up seven hits to the Orioles, including a homer by Don Buford, in six innings before yielding to Ron Perranoski, who allowed one hit in the last three frames and recorded his 25th save of the season. [The Sporting News]
