After a shaky start, Tom Seaver settled down, allowed only one hit in the last seven innings and pitched the Mets to a 5-3 victory over the Giants. A pass to Tito Fuentes and singles by Willie Mays, Dick Dietz and Jim Ray Hart gave the Giants two runs in the first inning and Bobby Bonds added a homer in the second. The Mets came back with a two-run wallop by Joe Foy in their half of the second and tied the score when Cleon Jones hit for the circuit in the fourth. Seaver walked in the fifth, advanced on a passed ball and sacrifice and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Ken Singleton.
