Shattering an eight-game losing streak, the Cardinals went on a 19-hit rampage and defeated the Reds, 16-9. The Cardinals scored in all but two innings with an attack that included two homers by Dick Allen, three doubles by Vic Davalillo and a double and single by Mike Shannon, who drove in four runs.

The Reds took a 6-3 lead against Nelson Briles, getting five of their runs in a second-inning outburst that included Johnny Bench's 34th homer. However, Chuck Taylor then stifled the Cincy crew until the ninth when Bernie Carbo hit a homer with two men on base. [The Sporting News]
