The three-hit pitching of Mike Cuellar and a two-run single by Bobby Grich enabled the Orioles to defeat the White Sox, 4-2. The Orioles struck for three of their runs in the fourth inning. A double by Merv Rettenmund and single by Brooks Robinson produced the first marker. After two walks loaded the bases, Grich rapped his two-run single. Both runs off Cuellar were unearned on a wild throw by Brooks Robinson in the fifth before the Orioles added their last tally on singles by Boog Powell and Terry Crowley around a pass to Brooks Robinson.
