Making his debut in a Yankee uniform, Mike McCormick received credit for his first A. L. victory with the support of catcher Thurman Munson, who cracked four hits, including a homer, to help beat the Angels, 6-5. Tom Egan, the Angels' catcher, was charged with five passed balls, setting a league record. Egan also dropped a throw to the plate for an error in the sixth inning when the Yankees scored what proved to be the winning run. McCormick, who was obtained from the Giants, was chased in the seventh, but Lindy McDaniel saved his victory.
