Making his debut in a Yankee uniform, Mike McCormick received credit for his first A. L. victory with the support of catcher Thurman Munson, who cracked four hits, including a homer, to help beat the Angels, 6-5. Tom Egan, the Angels' catcher, was charged with five passed balls, setting a league record. Egan also dropped a throw to the plate for an error in the sixth inning when the Yankees scored what proved to be the winning run.
