The Cubs hit three homers in the first inning and scored six runs to escort Ken Holtzman to a 9-2 victory over the Astros. Billy Williams started the bombardment after a single by Glenn Beckert. Ron Santo singled and crossed the plate on a triple by Willie Smith before Johnny Callison and Randy Hundley hit homers in succession. Doug Rader rapped a round-tripper for the Astros.
