Gary Nolan, who was the winner, fell behind, 3-0, before the Reds rallied for two runs in the fifth. Dave Concepcion singled, Nolan sacrificed and Pete Rose singled for the first tally. After taking third on a single by Bobby Tolan, Rose scored on sacrifice fly by Tony Perez.
