. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Double plays in the eighth and ninth innings enabled Wayne Granger to receive credit for his 24th save of the season as the Reds edged the Pirates, 4-3. Gary Nolan, who was the winner, fell behind, 3-0, before the Reds rallied for two runs in the fifth. Dave Concepcion singled, Nolan sacrificed and Pete Rose singled for the first tally. After taking third on a single by Bobby Tolan, Rose scored on sacrifice fly by Tony Perez. The Reds then went ahead in the sixth on a single by Tommy Helms, a pass to Concepcion, sacrifice bunt by Ty Cline and two-run single by Rose. [The Sporting News]
