Rusty Staub snapped out of an 0-for-12 slump with a tie-breaking homer in the fifth inning to enable the Expos to defeat the Padres, 4-3. The Expos took a 3-0 lead before the Padres came back with two runs in the fourth on a walk, a triple by Al Ferrara and an infield out. Doubles by Clay Kirby and Dave Campbell tied the score in the fifth. Staub not only produced the winning run with his homer but also saved the game, making a spectacular catch of a line drive by Ollie Brown in the sixth and throwing to first to double Ferrara off base. Carl Morton, who pitched his 14th victory, set an Expos' club record by winning his fifth game in a row. [The Sporting News] |
