Two homers by Lou Brock and one by Joe Torre enabled the Cardinals to defeat the Braves, 4-2. Brock led off the first inning with a circuit clout and the Cardinals added a run in the second on a double by Jose Cardenal and a single by Mike Shannon. Torre homered in the fourth and Brock hit his second round-tripper of the game in the eighth. The Braves chased Jerry Reuss in the ninth when Orlando Cepeda singled and Clete Boyer homered. Chuck Taylor retired the next two batters before Mike Lum walked and Rico Carty doubled, but Felix Millan grounded out to end the game. [The Sporting News] |
