The Angels broke out of a scoring slump and ended their five-game losing streak by defeating the Red Sox. 8-3. When the Angels were blanked in the first, it marked their 24th straight scoreless inning against Red Sox pitching. However, in the second, Alex Johnson and Jim Spencer singled and when catcher Jerry Moses threw wildly on a pickoff attempt, Johnson scored. Ken McMullen followed with triple for another run and crossed the plate himself on a single by Sandy Alomar. Jim Fregosi and McMullen then hit homers to highlight a five-run outburst in the sixth.

Tom Bradley gained his first major league victory but was removed in ninth after Tony Conigliaro homered with two men on base for the Red Sox. [The Sporting News]
