The Angels bunched seven hits, six of them in succession, for four runs in the fourth inning and posted a 5-0 victory over the Athletics behind the pitching of Rudy May. Jim Fregosi opened the stanza with a single and, after one out, Jim Spencer tripled, Jay Johnstone and Bill Voss hit successive doubles and Joe Azcue singled. May doubled Azcue to third and Sandy Alomar bounced a single off home plate, but Azcue held third and May was trapped off second to keep the Angels from adding other runs before the inning ended.
