After pitching hitless ball for the first six innings, Fergie Jenkins settled for a three-hitter as the Cubs defeated the Mets, 6-1. Glenn Beckert, who wound up with three hits for the Cubs, singled in the first inning and scored on a double by Ron Santo. Johnny Callison homered in the second. Another run scored when Beckert grounded into a forceout at second with the bases loaded in the fifth. Don Kessinger batted in two of the Cubs' last three runs with a grounder and a single.
