. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Jackie Brown, taking the mound as a last-minute substitute for George Brunet, received credit for his first major league victory when the Senators defeated the Tigers, 4-1. Brunet, who was announced as the starting pitcher, had to withdraw after suffering a muscle spasm in his right shoulder while warming up. Brown pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and one run before Darold Knowles relieved. The Senators gave their rookie the winning bulge against Denny McLain in the first inning when Aurelio Rodriguez homered after a walk to Frank Howard and double by Mike Epstein. Bernie Allen homered for the Nats' other run in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
