Jim Palmer posted his 16th victory, matching his 1969 winning mark with the Orioles, and pitched his fourth shutout of the season by defeating the Red Sox, 3-0. The Orioles got off to a fast start against Sonny Siebert, scoring two runs in the first inning on singles by Don Buford, Paul Blair, Merv Rettenmund and Elrod Hendricks. Davey Johnson singled in the second, took third when Siebert threw wildly on a bunt by Palmer and scored the final run on a sacrifice fly by Buford. [The Sporting News]
